Yellowing and staining of teeth may occur due to genetic factors, diet, smoking, tea/coffee consumption, certain medications, and food colorants. This can create an aesthetically unpleasant appearance.

Teeth whitening (bleaching) is a safe procedure that removes discoloration on the tooth surface using special whitening agents, resulting in a lighter and more natural shade. The process is performed in a controlled way without damaging the enamel and is usually completed in a single session.

There are two different methods:

• At-Home Whitening

At-home whitening should be performed according to the dentist’s plan and recommendations. Products used without professional supervision may damage enamel and gums. During treatment, impressions are taken and personalized transparent trays are prepared. The recommended whitening gel is applied to these trays and used at home for the specified duration, allowing a controlled and safe progression.

• In-Office Whitening

In-office whitening is a professional method performed by the dentist in a clinical setting. It typically takes 45–60 minutes, is often completed in one session, and provides fast results.

The longevity of the whitening results depends on oral hygiene habits and diet. With regular brushing, flossing, and controlled consumption of stain-causing foods and beverages, the whitening effect can be maintained for a long time.
