Oral and dental health during pregnancy is very important for both mother and baby. Dentists recommend completing necessary check-ups and dental care ideally before planning pregnancy.
However, when postponing treatment until after delivery is not appropriate, procedures such as tooth extraction, root canal treatment, and fillings can be safely performed during pregnancy. The treatment plan is determined based on the week of pregnancy and the urgency of the complaint.
In general, non-urgent procedures are not recommended during:
- The first trimester (first 3 months)
- The third trimester (last 3 months)
The most suitable period is usually considered the second trimester. The mother-to-be should also take into account the treatment approval report from her obstetrician.
During this period, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene and consult a dentist without delay in case of pain, swelling, or bleeding.
